Benefits of Opening Your Heart in Yoga

This past Wednesday was Valentine's Day. A day about love, caring & sharing. As all things get to be, it is marketed for us to spend money on those we love & if we don't currently have a significant other, we can be made to feel we are lacking. Instead, make it a day to remind you to be loving & compassionate to yourself. To do something you love & to focus on opening yourself up to life by opening up your heart.

In yoga we speak of opening your heart centre (your chest) & know that when we are hurting, sad, afraid... we close off our physical chest to protect ourselves. Instead, let this week remind us to open up our heart centre to help us physically & emotionally be more be more open & even vulnerable. See vulnerability as a strength not a weakness. That when we are brave enough to open ourselves up, to show our true selves to the world, we are also seen. Brene Brown who has studied, wrote & spoke about these subjects says:

So take some time to open up your heart & you will become stronger both physically & emotionally. See the article below for ways to open your heart in your yoga practice.
